What’s this?

It’s the second season from the jewel in Netflix’s crown, and Clare Foy is back as Queen Elizabeth II. Set ten years into her reign and running from the 1956 Suez Crisis through to the mid-1960s, it focuses on Prince Philip’s rumoured infidelities and Princess Margaret’s marriage.

Tell me more!

Being Queen actually sounds a bit stressful…

It is, rather. With her marriage to Philip (Doctor Who’s Matt Smith) in crisis, her empire crumbling around her, and a third Prime Minister in ten years not lasting the course, she’s not having the smoothest of rides.

What's Prince Philip up to?

With rumours flying around that he’s played away, plus his own frustration at being outranked by his eight-year-old son, he’s in a spot of bother this season.

And how’s Princess Margaret?

After divorced RAF captain Peter Townsend was deemed an unacceptable match, things are hotting up between Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby, About Time) and society photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones – played by cast newbie Matthew Goode (Downton Abbey).

Who else is joining in?

Dexter star Michael C Hall will play John F Kennedy, with South African actress Jodi Balfour (Rellik) as Jackie. Sad news for John Lithgow fans, though. He will not be returning in his Emmy Award-winning role as Winston Churchill.

I’m in!

Of course you are! Which has got us to thinking, what other real-life figures would we like to be given the Netflix series treatment?
